Chris promises to play the band's song 'Defryme' the next night on the radio. The song goes for 12 minutes, but Chris keeps his word. Defryme have their first radio play. Quinn famously introduces himself to Tom York and, in his eagerness to get off on the right foot, asks Tom how he feels about coming out to a wonderful country like Australia to promote their record 'The Bends'. Tom completely crushes Quinn's spirit by replying, not even deigning to glance at him mind you, "Well...its like... what's the fucken point?". Quinn doesn't understand the defeatist attitude and makes a personal promise to kick Radiohead's ass every show they do together, on an energy level at least. Defryme then gets bumped on the Melbourne leg of the tour, and another band gets the honors |
